·
Have your new puppy examined by a vet within 72 hours. ·
Continue vaccinating your puppy every 3 weeks and
dewormed every 2 weeks until the age of 16 weeks. I use Strongid-T
for deworming. ·
Feed your mastiff puppy a good quality premium puppy
food that is 20- 25% protein and 12-18% fat. Also, make sure the
puppy food is well balanced for calcium, phosphorus and high in
iodine (3-5%). ·
DO NOT over exercise your mastiff. They
grow to be large dogs and tend to overheat very easily. Walk your
mastiff in the early AM or in the evening. Make sure your mastiff
drink plenty of water before going on walks. ·
DO NOT exercise your mastiffs after feedings.
This may cause severe problems with their digestive system and may
result in death. ·
Try not to crate your puppy more than six hours.
Your mastiff will need to be able to stand up and turn around
inside the crate. ·
Enroll your puppy in basic obedience training. ·
During the first 3-5 days in your home, the puppy
may seem a bit uncertain and lose its appetite. This is normal as
they are adjusting to their new environment. Interact with your
puppy with play as much as possible and free feed during this time
until it becomes acclimated to your family. ·
Start your puppy’s heartworm preventative at 16
weeks old. ·
DO NOT allow your mastiff to eat
chocolate or drink anti-freeze. This is toxic to your dog. ·
DO NOT allow your puppy to sniff or
ingest feces from other dogs.
